Polyphenolics Biotransformation by Human Intestinal Bacteria

Many polyphenolic compounds we take from daily diet are metabolized by the human microbiota. We are interested in the biotransformation of functional polyphenolic compounds by human intestinal bacteria, because the metabolic products may have different biological functions for human health. The research began with S-equol formation, and we have recently discovered a new metabolic pathway of polymethoxyflavones.


Flavonoid Biotransformation by Human Intestinal Bacteria

Flavonoids, including isoflavonoids, show important biological activities and thus inhance human health. While we have successfully elucidated S-equol biosynthetic pathway in hman intestine, we expand our reserch to other flavonoids.
